Hello! My name is Saskia.

I am the founder of Ecofluency, as well as a consultant, facilitator, educator, researcher, and activist in this field.

I believe Nature communication is a critical skill for future resilience, and a fundamental and vital resource for harmonious relationship with all life.

My most life-changing experience was attending an animal communication workshop during my PhD (in Plant Pathology) in 2012. This sparked my interest in how farmers use intuitive communication with Nature to inform practical management decisions.

After completing my PhD, I held two collaborative postdoctoral fellowships with Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and with Coventry University, UK, from 2014-2020. Through these, I investigated quantum-based or subtle agricultural techniques and technologies that use sound, electromagnetics, catalytic substances and human intuitive abilities in farm management decision making.

During and after my postdoctoral years, I further developed my own understanding and practice in communicating with trees, animals, land, nature spirits and ancestors. I am a Family Constellations facilitator, and have taken numerous trainings to do energy field clearings for humans, animals, buildings and landscapes.

In 2021, I finally founded Ecofluency officially, to promote the science, art and practical magic of Nature communication worldwide, for individual and collective transformation.

My passion is creating opportunities for others to have their own experience of dialogue with more-than-human Nature. Ecofluency offers Consultations with Nature for individuals, groups and organisations, teaching others to communicate with Nature in person and online through events, courses and workshops, and Energy Field Clearings  for great clarity and communication in our relationships with ourselves and the rest of Nature.

Part of my work and passion is also supporting other human voices in this critical field, and you’ll find some of these voices listed here. Ecofluency also has some self-driven campaigns to help raise funds and awareness for projects that are aligned with my Vision and Mission.

I am a director of the Organisation for Noetic Ecology, which helps to re-imagine the human relationship with the rest of Nature through connective experiences. And as a founding member of Nature’s Council, I help to bring the voice of more-than-human Nature to the table as a stakeholder in decision-making processes, from conservation projects to policy making, like the Rights of Nature movement.

I have 15 years of experience in teaching and facilitating in various forms, and presenting my work in various ways on numerous international platforms, and some of my most recent presentations are recorded here.

With Ecofleuncy, my aim is to support people and organisations in reclaiming these ancestral skills, for individual and the collective transformation.

PERSONAL CONTEXT

I’ve found that (re)learning and practicing healthy relating is a long and arduous journey, but it is deeply rewarding. And I believe it is simply the duty of everyone who wants to see the change they desire in this world.

I was born during Spring Equinox in September 1986, in Johannesburg, South Africa, pre-colonial homeland of the diverse Tswana people.

I am a mixed-race child of a German, Protestant-raised father, and a South African Indian, Muslim-raised mother. Despite their vast personal, cultural and educational differences, I now understand that the difficulties in my childhood were the result of my parents’ own unresolved past traumas, as well as inherited trauma, of which neither of my parents had clear knowledge, nor the resources to appropriately address and heal. Indeed, this is the case for most people in this world, but I feel that acknowledging it is important as a first step in taking responsibility for one’s own healing journey.

As the firstborn of three children, I often feel responsible for healing as much as I can in my generation. Thankfully, I am able-bodied, with (subjectively) sound mind, a silly sense of humour, and a stubbornly strong will. These have helped make me resilient against my fierce inner critic, a nemesis of mine for as long as I can remember.

Because I was born during apartheid, I was ‘born a crime’ (like comedian Trevor Noah). But most people don’t know my mixed-race background and I pass as white, so I acknowledge that I have the privilege of everything that is brought with being identified as white. And yet I have experienced racism (from all races) and sexism, in myself, against myself, and within and against my family. This has made me devoted to healing the internal, ancestral and socio-cultural damage that privilege (white or class-based), sexism and racism cause in the world.

For me, Nature communication is a powerful compass in navigating this journey. It has significantly changed my life, and the lives of many others. It can help us find and fulfill each of our rightful place in our very large family with and on our Earth’s ecosystem.

And perhaps, most importantly, it helps reignite the tender magic of awe, wonder and enchantment in our souls right now, making life as a human a joy to experience. And that is how we live in right relationship with our Earth, because the well-being of Nature doesn’t need our absence, but our full human presence.
